This is a great article and resource for anyone who works with children.
I remember 3.5 years ago coming home from being out of town and finding out one of my daughter’s classmates was killed in a tragic accident. The child was 6 years old. My daughter and this child were friends.
The school had counselor’s onsite to debrief the kids and the teachers… this is needed and it is important to have a separate conversation with the class of students that a child was in, to the ability of the age of the children to understand. The teacher can be instrumental in helping as well as questions will come up later.
Death is a part of life whether we like it or not. “To be born, we must die.” The cycle of life… teach children about death and dying talking about plants, trees, flowers and pets. This is often the first exposure to death.
