This morning, as I do everyday, I went on LinkedIn and immediately came across two videos that are both worth watching.
One focuses on the 2 words of, ‘You Matter’ and the other on ‘Finding your home; your passion.’
Angela Maiers is an education and technology consultant from Des Moines, Iowa who shares with us how two words can change a life. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like
Angela talks about writing in a journal and noticing what contributions, what positives, what initiatives people around her are doing and making including her students. She opens her talk with a story. She is stranded in an airport with a group of other people because of bad weather. There are no car rentals available, no hotel rooms, nowhere to go, but to wait at the airport overnight until the weather improves.
The heart-warming part of the story is an individual at the airport who notices and basically goes out of her way to help this group of stranded travelers; Annie happens to be a supervisor at the airport. Angela’s story continues with her wanting to recognize Annie for her caring attitude, for going above and beyond her job requirements. She is saying in a sense, “You matter’ and ‘Thank you.’ Important words. Take a look at her TEDx talk.
The other video is a talk by Elizabeth Gilbert who wrote, “Eat, Pray, Love” a very popular book which was turned into a wonderful movie with Julia Roberts.
Elizabeth was a diner waitress when she wrote the book. She shares that one successful book does not necessarily mean a second successful book, but what matters is the journey, persistence, and finding your passion- which for her, is writing. Take a look at her TED talk.
